Yesterday after work, a number of 3Dimerce employees visited this year’s GLOW forum for light and architecture in Eindhoven.
Artists and designers from the Netherlands and abroad exhibit light art and design applications that have been created using new media technology and more traditional projection techniques.
Objects and installations are present throughout the city, along a route that can be traveled on foot once darkness sets in.
This year’s GLOW route literally bridges the worlds of art and technology, connecting the Van Abben Museum of modern art and the Technical University of Eindhoven. The first is celebrating it’s 75th anniversary, the second it’s 55th.
We all agreed that top honors this year go to the “Afterlight” graffiti, that is brought into virtual 3D by computer generated lighting effects. Please click the link for a bit of home video of Afterlight in action.
An honorable mention goes to the high voltage generator that plays music with lightning. Yes actual lightning! Nothing beats the Star Wars imperial march played with lightning.
As every year, it is amazing to see how light can bring an inanimate object to life. Not unlike we try to accomplish in our own daily practice, when we bring our customer’s products to life under the virtual lights in our computers…

The idea is simple: add a huge amount of ‘what’s in it for me’ for the Facebook user to Like Volkswagen. In return one of the fans can win a custom build Volkwagen Classic car that’s converted to an honest to god social media machine. Fans have choice of two VW Evergreens of the past: the T1 Van & the Beetle. The model that’s been liked the most at the end of this marketing campaign, will be built: so effectively the car is ‘built on Likes’. At this moment the T1 Van is the most favourable with almost 80% of the votes. Not quite a surprise within a concept that’s trying to build a social car: a T1 simply fits much more friends than a Beetle!

An average of $1.000 per watch is certainly pretty steep for a plastic watch... Shows you what the added value ...
